What is a duplicate file?

This is a files with same content, no matter where the files are stored. The files may even have different names and locations. Need3Space will compare content of files with the CRC32 algorithm, which gives a high accuracy rate, and makes a decision if the files are identical or not. Although it is a very small chance (about 0.01%), if Need3Space found two or more similar files that it detects to be duplipcates, it will not automatically delete these files. In that instance, only you can make the final decision to delete these files or to keep them.

There are many reasons why you get duplicated files on your drives. You can download the same files from the Internet if you forgot that you had already downloaded this file. You often make backups and have a number of identical backups. You create temporary copies of files, for example, for burning files to a CD. Almost all home PCs or office workstations contain duplicated files, which simply waste your storage space.

All duplicate files that are found are represented in groups. This method of results representation helps you easily eliminate duplicate files and free up disk space in a matter of minutes. You can sort groups by size on disk, if you would just like to delete the largest duplicate files. (But do not forget to keep at least one copy of the duplicate files.) You can make more complex selection with Smart selection. It allows you to setup a number of parameters with which to select files. For more detailed information, see Duplicate files - smart selection section.

You can learn how to work with results trees (sort items, hide or show columns) in working with Results Tree section.

You can manipulate files using toolbar buttons and context menu. All search results windows has same toolbar and context menu buttons. For detailed descriptions see Toolbar and Context Menu sections.
